“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
- Luke 15:8-10, NIV
How often do we go to church with expectation of spiritual grandeur upon the masses, yet forget about the “one” God is seeking to help? Think for just a minute about how much time Christians spend attempting to sway the masses, yet walk away frustrated because of the diminutive numbers that do show up…then carefully assess where “you” would be this day, this hour, this very minute if Jesus worked according to the same criteria. In your walk it’s important to note that God’s Word is not exclusive (there is no quota), rather inclusive; however, it is God’s people who seemingly define who and what defines the success of It, as well as, its impact. But if God’s thoughts and ways are not that of His people, who are they to assess His impact. The power of the cross is exhibited in/through the love by which Jesus was sent to it…serving as a symbol to the “masses”, but tailor made for the one. You do well to stop focusing on who isn’t in the church, and start focusing on who is (even the seasonal attender whose hand is out)…because God is just as concerned for the one as He is for the masses
- Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent (Luke 15:3-7, NIV).
